New Games Guide | October 2016

It’s an absolutely huge month for releases in October. Take a look at our guide to see what’s worth getting.

Mafia 3

Release Date: October 7    Platform: Xbox One / PS4 / PC

Take on some sweet, sweet revenge with Lincoln Clay in Mafia 3. The New Orleans-esque New Bordeaux provides the setting for the biggest mafia overhaul of the 60s, probably. Lincoln’s task is to set up a new crime organisation to confront the Italian mob by taking over the city one district at a time. There’s barely any connection to the previous two instalments bar a couple of characters, so this would be a good gateway into the Mafia series.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration

Release Date: October 11    Platform: PS4

Lara Croft finally makes the move to PS4 this month. Not only that, but it bundles in all the previous DLC, VR support, a new Co-op endurance survival mode and new weapons, all thanks to the 20 year anniversary of Tomb Raider. You also get some skins from her two decades in gaming, which is slightly… odd.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience

Snake’s final showcase is getting the definitive experience. Last year’s Phantom Pain and 2014 mini-release Ground Zeroes are included in the game, along with all the DLC, so you have plenty of important missions to carry out while hidden under a cardboard box.

Titanfall 2

Release Date: October 28    Platform: Xbox One / PS4 / PC

Ready to play around with giant robots in Titanfall 2? Of course you are! After the massive surge that came from the original as one of the first major multiplayer games for the Xbox One, it petered out very quickly. Which is probably why the sequel is also available on PS4. The multiplayer will always be the main draw for Titanfall 2, as you go around shooting fellow pilots until you get to jump into your machine of a titan, but this time around, we also get a single-player campaign after the omission from the first title. It’ll be interesting to see the story that forms from a man and his robot friend.
